Why Business Intelligence is becoming an essential tool in today’s world

The term `Business Intelligence’, more commonly known as BI in the IT realm, is one that is fast becoming mainstream across a wide variety of industries throughout the world.

But what is Business Intelligence?

Wikipedia describes it as: `Computer-based techniques used in identifying, extracting and analyzing business data, such as sales revenue by products and/or departments, or by associated costs and incomes’.

A common over-arching theme is that BI enables companies to make concise, educated business decisions through the provision of comprehensive and accurate data analysis.

In fact it’s been said that BI can have a direct positive impact on a company’s performance and ablity to accomplish its goals by allowing it to make more informed decisions across every level of the business.

Leading BI provider Qodo Business Solutions believes Business Intelligence is becoming an essential tool in today’s day-to-day business operations.

Qodo Director Bernard Herrok, who has been designing Data Warehouses for companies such as Telstra, ANZ and realestate.com.au for the past 6 years, said optimising Business Intelligence was about using industry leading technologies to achieve best outcome solutions.

“We use Microsoft SQL Server database management system which is the industry’s leading technology (according to Gartner 2011)”, Mr Herrok explained.

It allows us to easily integrate data from disparate business critical sources and applications to generate comprehensive reporting dashboards, KPIs, scorecards and more.

With our expert knowledge in the .NET framework, we have the ability to enhance the already feature rich Microsoft SQL Server tool, essentially extending its capabilities beyond the box.

Mr Herrok, with a Masters in Information Technology (MScIT) and 10 years in the Information Technology industry, said organisations were beginning to take steps to make BI available to all employees who need access to timely information and the analytics associated with it.

“It’s becoming apparent that BI is an every-day tool companies are implementing to ensure best operating practices are found, followed and fruitful.”

Mr Herrok added that Qodo provides a pragmatic approach to solution delivery using standard software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies.

“We follow six simple and effective steps when assisting companies with BI – 1: Define; 2: Evaluate; 3: Analyse and Design; 4: Build and Test; 5: Implement; 6: Measure and Manage. We’ve found this type of end-to-end service model is the most productive and successful and leaves our clients feeling confident that their BI needs are being taking care of.”
